A small snippet of news for a change! (All those reviews can get a little tiresome…)
The UK Launch event of the new Cohiba Behike line will be held on Tuesday 12th May. Hunters and Frankau, the sole UK importer of Cuban cigars, are hosting an evening at the Hotel Goring in London. If you are in the capital that evening, it is certainly an occassion to consider – for £150 you’ll take away a box containing one each of the new line, plus a BHK52 and another cigar to smoke on the evening. That’s of course in addition to the cocktails and champagne… I shall be in attendance and will make sure to report the event on the blog.
The new line of cigars from Cohiba use medio tiempo leaves, the rarest leaves from the top priming of select tobacco plants. It is described, variously, as either a light-ligero, or as falling neatly between the medium flavour/stength profile of seco leaves and the brute strength of the ligero leaves. Due to the appropriate strength of the medio tiempo leaves, the BHKs will have no ligero in their fillers, yet, according to the few who have already had sneek previews, will still be a powerful smoke.
The three sizes of BHKs, all new, are:
- BHK52 – 4 3/4″ x 52
- BHK54 – 5 5/8″ x 54
- BHK56 – 6 1/2″ x 56
Unfortunately, the demand for these cigars (purported to be the best of the best of the best) has been so great that supply will likely not meet demand, even given high prices. Even more unfortunately, Habanos SA has taken the opportunity that this situation has afforded them to increase prices by 10% before they have even been released… Expect these to be very pricey sticks (in the £30 – £45 range). I’ll let you know soon enough if they are worth it… 😉
