It is with great sadness that the death of Alejandro Robaina was announced in Cuba today. Having suffered from ill health due to cancer (diagnosed last year), the legendary tobacco grower passed away, aged 91, at his farm in the Vuelta Abajo region of Cuba.
Described by some as the ‘Godfather of tobacco’, his legacy is arguably the greatest tobacco growing plantation in the world. He will be sorely missed.
